There have been a lot of quickfire knocks in the Indian Premier League’s history, but which batsmen have registered the highest strike-rate in an IPL innings?

We have only included the knocks where a minimum of 20 runs were scored. RCB are the most-featured team in the list – while two of the five below-mentioned knocks came for them, they were at the receiving end of one.

Krunal Pandya v SRH, IPL 2020

Strike-rate: 500

Krunal Pandya rose to the top of this list with his four-ball 20 against Sunrisers Hyderabad – a strike-rate of 500. The all-rounder walked in after his younger brother, Hardik, was dismissed on the second delivery of the final over of MI’s innings with the total reading 188-5. 6, 4, 4, 6 from Krunal’s bat followed as MI finished at 208, which turned out to be a match-winning total.

Chris Morris v RPS, IPL 2017

Strike-rate: 422.22

Chris Morris, representing Delhi Capitals back then, came in to bat in the 19th over with DC at 166, a fair way off from the eventual 205 they ended up getting. The all-rounder slammed four fours and three sixes in the nine balls that he faced, scoring 38 runs at a strike-rate of 422.22. Delhi won the match by 97 runs with Morris picking a wicket as well.

Albie Morkel v RCB, IPL 2012

Strike-rate: 400

This one was quite special. Needing 206 to win against RCB, CSK were down to 163-4 at the end of 18th over and required another 43 in two overs. Within an over, Morkel changed the equation to 15 needed off the last. Virat Kohli, of all people, was handed the responsibility to bowl the penultimate over, only to be smacked for 4, 6, 4, 6, 2, 6 – 28 off the over. Morkel departed in the last over after a seven-ball 28 – a strike-rate of 400 – but CSK managed to cross the line.

AB de Villiers v PWI, IPL 2013

Strike-rate: 387.50

This match is best remembered for Chris Gayle’s 175, but AB de Villiers still managed to play one of the fastest IPL knocks ever. Gayle was already batting on 155 when AB arrived at the crease and joined the party. A four, six and a four to start with and a four and consecutive sixes to finish things off – he took eight balls for his 31 runs, a strike-rate of 387.50.

Balachandra Akhil v DCH, IPL 2008

Strike-rate: 385.71

Akhil played a total of 15 IPL matches between 2008 and 2011 but his knock against Deccan Chargers is still the fifth-fastest knock in the tournament’s history. RCB were comfortable in their chase of 166 when Akhil walked in. He began the onslaught with consecutive boundaries against Chaminda Vaas, and followed it up with three sixes in the next over to finish things off. A seven-ball 27 at a strike-rate of 385.71.
