England win the T20 World Cup with Jos Buttler showing his batting charm

by Wisden Staff 3 minute read

When a World Cup final comes around, the best players’ performances are always under the surveillance of cricket fans.

This year’s T20 World Cup final featured Pakistan and England, both of whom enjoyed excellent tournaments. New Zealand were unable to replicate their success from 2021 where they qualified for the final and the excitement around epic India-Pakistan group stage clash was ground to a halt after India lost to England by 10 wickets in an extraordinary semi-final. England captain Jos Buttler had an excellent tournament – did this phenomenal batter prove his worth one more time by defeating Pakistan in the final?

This year’s men’s T20 World Cup was super exciting for everyone as the sport returned to normality after two years heavily affected by the pandemic. You could easily watch the final event highlights on various sites and during the intervals, try your luck playing the exciting games on Ignition Online Casino. For a true sports fan, this completes the experience of witnessing a championship game full circle.

The incredible openers of the England Cricket Team

The semi-finals demonstrated the incredible effort put in by England T20I openers Jos Buttler and Alex Hales. England qualified for the T20I World Cup final against Pakistan courtesy of an amazing 170-run unbroken partnership between Buttler and Hales.

But, unfortunately during the final, Alex Hales failed to show his worth, only scoring one run, and lost his wicket within two balls. Maybe, it happened because of his over-excitement, as right after the semi-final Alex Hales mentioned that he never imagined he would be in the World Cup again after he was already banned from the national team due to a failed drug test in 2019, let alone appearing in a T20 World Cup final.

Also, Jos Buttler only scored 26 runs, but he was playing well. The England captain hit a six right before being caught out. But the supporters of England expected more from him. The spectacular captain of England did so great in dominating the semi-final round – that it is obvious. They were raining boundaries and chased down the India total with only four overs remaining. Alex Hales’ performance level has been exceptional since the beginning of the tournament.

Statistics indicate that the performance rate of Jos Buttler is outstanding when it’s a matter of winning and going beyond his previous records.

Two roaring teams in the final

Undoubtedly, England and Pakistan teams are both strong sides.

Pakistan, the most unpredictable team in the tournament, had recently demonstrated their dominance in the semi-finals by defeating New Zealand. The roars of these phenomenal finalists can be felt already. Pakistan tried their best to take Jos Buttler’s wicket early in the match and succeeded because the opener played and posed a dangerous threat in the semi-final against India. With the proper guide, Jos Buttler as a captain led the team and the whole team won by five wickets, The fielding of both teams was tough.

Jos Buttler With His Batting Charm

Having a total of 225 runs in this T20 World Cup already, Buttler had ranked fourth for mosts runs even though he scored most of them by playing against New Zealand and India. This player steals the hearts of the fans through precise batting and non-stop boundaries when he is in form. In this tournament, he hit seven boundaries against New Zealand alone.

He tackled India brilliantly throughout the powerplay session, solidifying his standing as a quality player. The warnings from Buttler before the match came true and hit many boundaries against Virat Kohli’s side.

Conclusion

There were concerns regarding Morgan’s successor before he departed in June. Of course, Buttler was the only practical choice, but given that leadership requires more of a leader than a cricketer, there was concern that he lacked the toughness and bravery required for the position, comparable to that of Morgan. Nothing answers that question more clearly than silverware. Buttler is the captain of a squad that is resonating in his image, and that has become abundantly clear over the past month with each step taken toward winning the T20 World Cup. And really showed his worth.
