Watch: Mohammad Rizwan smashes six-filled 19-ball fifty in T20 Blast

by Wisden Staff 5 minute read

Watch: Mohammad Rizwan continued his fine run of form in this year’s T20 Blast, smashing 66 off 32 balls against Essex at Chelmsford on Friday.

The keeper-batter was playing his first match for Sussex since May, having missed six Blast matches due to international commitments with Pakistan.

With Essex setting Sussex a steep target of 245, the visitors had to race out of the blocks quickly in the chase and Rizwan signalled his intentions at the top of the order, smashing two boundaries off Sam Cook’s opening over.

While his opening partner Luke Wright departed for 11, Rizwan advanced to his half-century off just 19 balls while sharing an 87-run stand with Ali Orr. But the gloveman slowed down after reaching his landmark, with his next 16 runs coming off 13 balls.

Aaron Nijjar accounted for Rizwan and while Ravi Bopara smashed 51 off 26 balls, Sussex fell short in the chase, succumbing to a 11-run defeat.

After four innings in this year’s Blast, Rizwan has 218 runs at an average of 72.66 and strike rate of 146.30.
