Watch: Marnus Labuschagne was involved in a heated exchange with Jason Roy and Sam Curran after the latter twice hit the Australia batsman with throws from mid-off during a T20 Blast match.
The incident occurred in the sixth over of Glamorgan’s innings on Monday, first off the second delivery and again off the final one. Labuschagne, batting at No.3, pushed the second delivery off Jordan Clark to mid-off, where Curran’s return throw ricocheted off the batsman’s pads, evoking an instant reaction from Labuschagne.
Four deliveries later, he repeated the shot, finding Curran again, who threw it back towards Labuschagne once more. This time, the ball bounced off the pitch and hit Labuschagne behind even as he turned away. Labuschagne was up in arms straightaway, animatedly gesturing while the umpire walked up to Curran. With Labuschagne directed some words at Curran, Roy entered the scene, retaliated as the two gestured at the pitch and to each other.
Roy continued to explain to Labuschagne while the players switched positions at the end of the over, with the Australian batsman appearing to not hear him, and suddenly giving out an animated response moments later.
“That is Surrey sort of saying, we know what you are going to try doing, you are gonna try steal singles off us,” said commentator Mark Church on air. “Labuschagne can’t really complain as he throws at the wicket virtually every time he fields the ball,” his co-commentator said.
Labuschagne went on to top score with 74 for Glamorgan and also picked up two wickets, but Surrey ended up completing a comfortable five-wicket win.
