Lancashire were the beneficiaries of what appeared to be an umpiring mistake on the final day of their County Championship game against Kent at Canterbury.
The day’s star was Matt Parkinson. The young England leg-spinner claimed a seven-wicket haul, taking his career first-class bowling average below 24.
He can count himself slightly fortunate to have picked up his third wicket in the way he did. Bowling to Jack Leaning a ball after the dismissal of Zak Crawley, Leaning chipped his first delivery straight back to Parkinson who took a straightforward return catch.
However, replays suggested that the ball likely hit the ground before spooning up to Parkinson. Kent skipper Sam Billings – who is away with Delhi Capitals at the IPL – took to Twitter to express his disappointment with the decision, saying: “How has that been given out!”
