Australia will look to defend the Ashes as Test cricket’s oldest rivalry begins a new chapter this December. They are the current holders of the urn, having retained the Ashes in England in 2019 courtesy of a 2-2 series result. Much is expected out of this Australian setup, given that they haven’t lost a home Ashes Test since 2011.
Help Australia select their strongest lineup for the first Ashes Test.
The Australia selectors have taken some interesting calls for the Ashes squad. Jhye Richardson and Michael Neser are the seamers to back-up Mitchell Starc, Pat Cummins and Josh Hazlewood, and it could be that we see Australia rotate their quicks across the five-match Test series. There is also a place for leg-spinner Mitchell Swepson as a back-up to Nathan Lyon.
But the biggest question will be around the number five spot – which will probably be a toss-up between Usman Khawaja and Travis Head. These are the questions which will be on the minds of Justin Langer and Tim Paine, but you can provide an answer right away.
Who will you select in your Ashes XI for the first Test? Where does Cameron Green figure in your calculations? Will you go with Marcus Harris and David Warner as the opening duo, or send Khawaja up the order? Have your take on the Australia XI now.
