Watch: Buttler, Jaiswal fall for twin ducks a RR lose five wickets in powerplay, succumb to 59 all out

by Wisden Staff 3 minute read

Watch: Rajasthan Royals slumped to the third-lowest IPL total ever, as Royal Challengers Bangalore tore through their top-order with five powerplay wickets.

Chasing 172, RR got off to the worst possible start when openers Jos Buttler and Yashasvi Jaiswal fell for ducks.

The 21-year-old Jaiswal, coming off the back of his IPL-record 13-ball fifty against Kolkata Knight Riders, was dismissed by Mohammed Siraj for no score on the second ball of the innings when he picked out Virat Kohli at mid-off.

Jos Buttler would suffer the same fate at the beginning of the second over, as he cut a wide Wayne Parnell delivery straight down Siraj’s throat.

The wickets would continue to tumble, with Sanju Samson, impact sub Devdutt Padikkal and Joe Root – his first visit to the middle this campaign – all falling as RR finished the powerplay 28-5.

RR are the second team to lose five powerplay wickets in this year’s tournament, following in Delhi Capitals footsteps.

The wickets continued to tumble, with Shimron Hetymer being RR’s only saving grace, hitting 35 from 19 balls including four maximums.

Sanju Samson’s side tumbled to 59 all out – despite their supreme batting in recent weeks – and lost by 112 runs. Wayne Parnell finished with three wickets, with Michael Bracewell and Karn Sharma picking up two apiece.

The result means RCB jump above RR into fifth place, on net run rate.
