Watch: Warner does a Ronaldo, tries to remove Coca-Cola bottles from press conference table

by Wisden Staff 2 minute read

Watch: David Warner tried to remove two Coca-Cola bottles from the press conference table, just like footballer Christiano Ronaldo had done, after Australia’s win against Sri Lanka in the T20 World Cup.

Left-hander David Warner, who was Australia’s representative in the post-match press conference on Thursday, tried to emulate Christiano Ronaldo as he removed two Coca-Cola bottles from the table, albeit tongue-in-cheek, before being told to keep the bottles back in place.

“Can I remove these? Do I have to put it there? If it’s good enough for Cristiano, it’s good enough for me,” Warner quipped while trying to remove the two bottles in front of him.

Ronaldo, a fitness enthusiast, had removed two glass bottles of Coca-Cola from the press conference table ahead of his team Portugal’s opener against Hungary in the Euros. The striker had picked up a bottle of water instead, urging people to choose the beverage over soft drinks.

His gesture had reportedly cost Coca-Cola a loss of $5.2 billion, with its share price falling by 1.6 percent.

Warner was the star of Australia’s win over Sri Lanka, as he returned to form with a fine 65 off 42 balls. The team chased down 155 with seven wickets to spare to register their second win of the edition.
