‘Like something from an old Brian Lara Cricket game’ – T20 World Cup ‘Run Box’ broadcast innovation splits opinion

by Wisden Staff 2 minute read

During the T20 World Cup semi-final between England and New Zealand, the broadcasters reintroduced the age-old of Run Box, albeit in a new form.

This introduction drew a variety of reactions across the social media spaces. Some viewers recalled the similarities between the ‘Run Box’ and video games of the yesteryears.

While the Run Box in the past used to be in the form of a square box present at the top right or left of the screen, depicting the running between the wickets when the ball had been placed to the outfield, the new iteration was a top-down graphic.

A number of people were amused by this addition.

While there were those who weren’t as impressed.

Still, some found it to be a relevant addition.
