‘Clicky handle is it?’ — David Warner bizarrely walks having not hit the ball in T20 World Cup semi-final

by Wisden Staff 3 minute read

David Warner’s thrilling innings of 49 off 30 deliveries in the semi-final against Pakistan had an anticlimactic end as the left-hander walked despite Ultra Edge showing a flat line.

The first ball of the 11th over sent down by Shadab Khan saw the batter go after a short ball that bounced more than Warner anticipated. Upon first glance, the ball seemed to kiss the top-half of his boat as it carried to the wicketkeeper with a loud noise being heard as the ball passed bat. There was a big appeal, with Warner walking off without considering a review.

However, replays showed a flat line on UltraEdge, and to make the dismissal even more bizarre, the batter decided to walk even before a decision from the umpire could come in. The incident led to plenty of reactions, with people being amazed at how Warner could not figure out that he did not nick the ball.
