Watch: India U19 bowler runs out South African at non-striker’s end; Richa Ghosh recalls her

Watch: Mannat Kashyap of India ran out South African Jenna Evans at the non-striker’s end during an Under-19 women’s Twenty20 International in Pretoria, only for Indian wicketkeeper Richa Ghosh to recall her.

India Under-19s put up 137-5 In the first T20I of the five-match series, at the Tshwane University of Technology Oval in Pretoria after being asked to bat. Ayanda Hlubi had captain Shafali Verma caught by Karabo Meso off the first ball of the match, but Shweta Sehrawat (40 in 39 balls) and Soumya Tiwari (36 in 46) added 71 for the second wicket before cameos from Ghosh, Hurley Gala, and Titas Sadhu took them to 137-5 even as Hlubi (4-0-22-2) and Kayla Reyneke (4-0-13-2) shared four wickets.

The South African chase was derailed by early blows by Md Shabnam (4-0-15-3) and Archana Devi (4-0-14-3). They were quickly reduced to 19-3, then 41-5. They were 65-7 by the time Kashyap (3-0-15-0) was bowling to Jemma Botha in the 17th over.

Earlier this month, Kashyap had tried to run out Izzy Gaze of New Zealand Under-19s. She hit the stumps, but the television umpire ruled Gaze, who had made it in time, not out.

Bowling round the wicket, left-arm spinner Kashyap noticed Evans outside the crease. She semi-completed the action, whipped off the bails, and appealed, and got the decision in her favour from the umpire at the non-striker’s end. As Evans left the crease, striker Botha was visibly disappointed. However, wicketkeeper Ghosh recalled Evans, and she resumed the innings, only to be caught by Archana off her own bowling.

India eventually restricted South Africa to 83-8.

Earlier this year, Deepti Sharma (who plays alongside Ghosh in the Indian senior team) had caused a stir by running out Charlie Dean of England during an ODI at Lord’s. The Indian team did not recall Dean.
