Marks out of 10: Player ratings for Pakistan in their ODI series against Australia

by Wisden Staff 3 minute read

Pakistan’s 2-1 ODI series victory over Australia included some star performances from Babar Azam and Imam ul-Haq, but not all the team performed to their usual standard. Here are Wisden.com’s ratings for each Pakistan player who featured in the series.

Fakhar Zaman: 5/10

3 matches, 102 runs @ 34, HS: 67

After a good start to the series with 67 in the first match, Fakhar’s contributions faded with scores of 18 and 17.

Imam-ul-Haq: 9.5/10

3 matches, 298 runs @ 149, HS: 106

It was an outstanding series for Imam after back-to-back hundreds in the first two matches. He is a formidable opening batter in ODIs, and has taken only 48 innings to notch up nine ODI hundreds, making him the quickest to reach the milestone in the history of the format. He misses out on a perfect score for getting out without seeing the side home in the first two games.

Babar Azam: 9.5/10

3 matches, 276 runs @ 138, HS: 114

Babar is in the form of his life across all formats, and his match-winning century in the second ODI was full of all the grace and skill we have come to expect from him. His talent has always been clear to see, but he is now churning out runs like a true great of the game; he has five hundreds in only 12 matches as Pakistan’s ODI captain. His ODI average is now over 58, too.

Mohammad Rizwan: 3/10

3 matches, 33 runs @ 16.5, HS: 23

A disappointing series for Pakistan’s pocket rocket. He was unlucky to be dismissed by some excellent keeping from Alex Carey in the first match, but gave his wicket away cheaply when looking to push on in the second ODI. His keeping, however, has been good.

Khushdil Shah: 5/10

3 matches, 46 runs @ 46, HS: 27*

2 wickets @ 53, BBI:1-50

The excellent form of Imam and Babar has meant that Khushdil hasn’t really been needed with the bat. He struggled in the first match but scored a handy 27 off 17 in the second, and chipped in with a couple of wickets across the series.

Iftikhar Ahmed: 3/10

3 matches, 10 runs @ 10, HS: 8*

2 wickets @ 56, BBI: 1-36

A quiet series for Iftikhar – he failed to impose himself with the bat or ball.

Shaheen Shah Afridi: 8.5/10

6 wickets @ 17, BBI: 4-63

One of the superstars of world cricket lived up to the billing again. Despite being rested for the opening game, Shaheen returned with 4-63 in the second match, and bowled a spell-binding opening over in the last ODI.

Haris Rauf: 6/10

5 wickets @ 28, BBI: 3-39

A solid enough series for Haris Rauf, whose extra pace troubled the Australian batsmen in the final ODI. He would have been disappointed to go wicket-less in the second match.

Mohammad Wasim: 6/10

5 wickets @ 31, BBI: 3-40

Wicketless in the first match, Wasim recovered well to take five in the next two, including an impressive three-for in the last match. A good series given his age.

Zahid Mahmood: 2/10

4 wickets @ 45, BBI: 2-59

The leggie had a difficult series, and his series average of 45 is much higher than he would have wanted. He didn’t pose the same threat at Adam Zampa.

Hasan Ali: 2/10

1 match, 0 wickets

Not a series to remember for Hasan Ali, who was dropped after the first ODI in favour of the returning Shaheen.
