Watch: Yashasvi Jaiswal hooked Jofra Archer’s second delivery back in the IPL 2023 for a 94-metre six, before a no-ball was signalled on a tricky return for the England quick.

Archer has been an infrequent feature for Mumbai Indians this season, having played two matches in this edition before today. Last week, it was reported that Archer had travelled to Belgium for a minor procedure on his elbow, which he has been struggling with for over a year.

He was back in the MI XI today (April 30), however, and called upon to bowl in the second over of the match. Faced with the in-form Jaiswal, his return got off to an inauspicious start.

Jaiswal took two off Archer’s first delivery before punishing his second. The 21-year-old breakout star manoeuvred a short ball behind square into the leg side, using the the angle of the ball to generate immense power. The ball travelled 94-metres and out of the Wankhede Stadium between two stands. To add further pain for Archer, the siren blared out the no-ball screech to signal he would have to bowl the delivery again with the added blow of a free-hit.

He sent down a back of a length deliver which deflected off Jaiswal’s pad for a leg bye, mitigating the damage of his front-foot error.

Archer came back on to bowl the fourth over, with Jos Buttler this time piling on the boundaries. He hit a four from Archer’s first and another off his fourth, with two wides making it an eight-ball over. 16 runs came off it, taking Archer’s total runs conceded from his first two up to 21.
