Mayank Agarwal- 3/10

59 runs @ 19.66, HS 33, 0 fifties

After a poor run in South Africa (135 runs in six innings), Mayank got yet another opportunity against Sri Lanka at home. Given the chance to build on his chances to be a backup opener in the absence of KL Rahul, Mayank struggled to get going on all three occasions. With Shubman Gill waiting in the wings, Mayank might end up ruing not making the most of this opportunity.

Rohit Sharma- 5/10

90 runs @ 30, HS 46, 0 fifties

India’s newly appointed Test skipper found himself at ease leading the side in the longest format. The runs didn’t flow off his bat – he didn’t cross 30 once, but led the side to two comfortable wins, keeping relentless pressure on the tourists.

Hanuma Vihari- 6/10

124 runs @ 41.33, HS 58, 1 fifty

Cheteshwar Pujara’s replacement at number three had a good start in Mohali and played two decent knocks on a tough surface in Bangalore with scores of 31 & 35. In a way, the Hyderabad player looks to have ensured his selection for the upcoming England trip.

Virat Kohli- 4/10

81 runs @ 27, HS 45, 0 fifties

In many ways, this was supposed to be Virat Kohli’s series, his first at home as non-captain in the longest time. His 100th Test came in Mohali, and the next Test was at his IPL ‘home’, Bengaluru. He looked good in Mohali, but fell for 45. He was a tad unlucky in Bangalore, where two low keeping deliveries got the better of him.

Shreyas Iyer- 8/10

186 runs @ 62, HS 92, 2 fifties

Shreyas Iyer couldn’t capitalise on the opportunity in Mohali but was brilliant in Bangalore. He top-scored with a 98-ball 92 in the first innings, when most of the India batters were struggling with the turn on the wicket. His 67 in the second innings, another fine innings on a difficult pitch, helped India’s lead cross 400 runs.

Rishabh Pant- 9/10

185 runs @ 61.66, HS 96, 2 fifties

Rishabh Pant might have missed out on a well-deserved ton in Mohali, but his quick-fire knocks helped India move to winning positions at different points of the series. He smashed the fastest Test fifty for India in the second innings at Bangalore, further building on the brand he’s developed. He struck at the rate of 120.12, which is India’s second-best strike-rate (minimum 150 runs) in a Test series.

Ravindra Jadeja- 9/10

201 runs @ 100.5, HS 175*, 10 wickets @ 15, BBI 5-41

The all-rounder came up with an emphatic career-best performance in Mohali, making Kohli’s 100th Test his own. He scored an unbeaten 175 in the first innings, his best Test score, and picked 9-87 in the Test to put up the perfect all-round show.

Ravichandran Ashwin- 9/10

87 runs @ 29, HS 61, 12 wickets @ 15.08, BBI 4-47

A home series is always a special occasion for Ravichandran Ashwin, who has over 300 wickets in India at an average close to 21. He went past the great Kapil Dev, and later ticked past Dale Steyn in what was, yet again, a supremely fruitful home outing.

Axar Patel 6/10

18 runs @ 9, 3 wickets @ 19.33, BBI 2-37

Axar Patel made his long-awaited comeback after missing out on the majority of India’s winter season. The all-rounder looked scratchy in the first innings but was in fine form in the second innings: accounting for two Sri Lanka wickets to add to his rousing start to Test cricket.

Jayant Yadav- 2/10

2 runs @ 2, o wickets, Econ 2.11

Jayant Yadav failed to get going on a Mohali wicket which had something to offer to the spinners. With the return of Axar Patel in Bangalore, he couldn’t find a place in the XI.

Mohammed Shami- 7/10

5 wickets @ 23.8, BBI 2-18, Econ 3.71

A bowler who is turn out to be India’s strike weapon in home conditions, Mohammed Shami was incisive in both the games. He took three wickets in Mohali and made key breakthroughs with the new pink ball in the first innings in Bangalore.

Jasprit Bumrah- 8.5/10

10 wickets @ 9, BBI 5-24, Econ 2.43

Recently promoted to vice-captaincy, India’s strike bowler ran through the Sri Lanka top order with the pink ball. He got two important breakthroughs in Mohali’s first innings, before bamboozling the Sri Lanka batters with the pink cherry across Bengaluru Test, snaring 5-24 in the first innings.
