Watch: Rohit Sharma was involved in a soft dismissal, offering a tame catch off Matthew Kuhnemann during the fourth Test between India and Australia at Ahmedabad.
India had gotten off to a good start, with both Rohit and Shubman Gill looking in fine touch. However, just when it seemed that the openers would put up a century partnership, Kuhnemann struck. He bowled the ball on a back of a length on middle and off stump. The delivery seemed innocuous and on most days, Rohit would have put it away. But on day three, the India captain could only manage to punch it straight to short extra cover, where Marnus Labuschagne made no mistake.
The ball might have held in the surface a touch, although there was no denying that Rohit was disappointed with the manner of his dismissal. Ravi Shastri, who was on commentary at the time, could not believe what had happened and dubbed the dismissal ‘soft’. India, however, recovered after that jolt with Gill and Cheteshwar Pujara stitching together a solid partnership. The former, in particular, played a few brilliant strokes, reaching his second Test hundred and his first against Australia.
