Marks out of 10: Player ratings for Pakistan in the England ODI series

by Rohit Sankar 3 minute read

There were worrying signs for Pakistan as they were routed 0-3 by a second-string England side in the three-match ODI series that ended on Tuesday – here are the ratings for Pakistan players from the series.

Babar Azam – 8/10

177 runs @ 59.0, SR: 113.46

From 0 off 14 balls in the final ODI, Babar Azam smashed 158 off 139 balls to turn his fortunes around in the series and help Pakistan to a huge total, but even that wasn’t enough to prevent a clean sweep.

Mohammad Rizwan – 7/10

92 runs @ 30.6, SR: 117.9

Rizwan played a significant role in the final ODI, putting on a handy partnership with Babar, and making his half-century in no time to lift the scoring rate, but was otherwise ordinary from the middle-order.

Saud Shakeel – 6/10

64 runs @ 32.0, SR: 68.8

Touted as an elegant left-hander who can fit perfectly into Pakistan’s setup, Shakeel made just 64 in three innings and notably failed to score runs quickly, striking at a rate below 70.

Fakhar Zaman – 4/10

63 runs @ 21.0, SR: 50.0

Fakhar came into this series off the back of two spectacular hundreds against the Proteas but was undone by three different bowlers in the series, totalling just 63 runs in three innings.

Imam-ul-Haq – 4/10

57 runs @ 19.0, SR: 75.0

Fakhar’s opening partner also had a tough series, scoring just 57 runs in the three innings. He did salvage things a bit with a half-century in the final ODI, but Parkinson’s ripper meant he couldn’t convert it into something bigger.

Shadab Khan – 3/10

51 runs @ 17.0, SR: 79.6

3 wickets @ 43.0, Eco: 5.6

Shadab Khan was neither too effective with the ball nor did much with the bat, and his performance here could put his place in the T20I XI in jeopardy, with Pakistan carrying the impactful Usman Qadir also as a leg-spinning option.

Sohaib Maqsood – 2/10

46 runs @ 15.3, SR: 85.1

The Player of the Match in the PSL 2021 final, Sohaib Maqsood was granted three successive games to find some form, but made just 46 runs in the three matches.

Hasan Ali – 9/10

6 wickets @ 25.5, Eco: 6.8

41 runs @ 13.6, SR: 146.4

Hasan Ali returned to a country he has had mixed luck in and thrived – a five-wicket haul with the ball and a cameo with the bat were the highlights of his series. The Pakistan quick will, however, want to lower that economy rate.

Faheem Ashraf – 1/10

0 wickets & 16 runs in three innings

Ashraf had a poor series with bat and ball, picking up zero wickets and leaking runs at an economy rate of 6.58 while contributing close to nothing with the bat.

Haris Rauf – 7/10

6 wickets @ 24.5, Eco: 6.6

Haris was among the wickets, notably sending back Phil Salt, who appeared to be in excellent touch, in the final ODI, but conceded runs at an economy rate of 6.6.

Shaheen Shah Afridi – 2/10

2 wickets @ 68.5, Eco: 5.9

Shaheen had an ordinary series as England’s second-string side milked runs off him in the powerplay and later. The left-arm quick picked up just two wickets in the series, leaking runs at nearly six an over.
