Watch: Virat Kohli drops one of the easiest catches you’ll see

by Wisden Staff 2 minute read

Virat Kohli added yet another drop to his list on the Australia tour, but salvaged some pride by running Matthew Wade out immediately after in the second T20I in Sydney.

After being put in to bat first, Wade, captaining Australia for the first time in T20Is, opened the innings in Aaron Finch’s stead and went ballistic from ball one, slamming 58 runs off 32 deliveries in a knock that saw him hit 10 boundaries and showed no signs of slowing down even after losing his opening partner D’Arcy Short.

A comedy of errors in the eighth over brought an end to his knock, however. The final delivery of the over bowled by Washington Sundar caught Wade’s leading edge and headed to Kohli at cover for a straightforward grab but the India captain failed to hold on to it with the ball juggling in his hands before falling out.

Wade first ran but with Kohli nicely stationed to complete a simple catch, the wicketkeeper-batsman made no attempt to get to back to his crease thinking the India captain had completed the grab when in fact, he had not. When Steve Smith notified him that the catch had actually been spilled, Wade wasn’t left with enough time to get back into the crease as Kohli threw the ball to KL Rahul, who immediately removed the bails.

You’ve really got to see it to believe it.

And fans, understandably, were left unimpressed by Kohli’s dismal run with catches.
