On home soil in 2009, England’s men team experienced a topsy-turvy World T20.

They were humbled by Netherlands on the opening day of the tournament but also emerged victorious over eventual champions Pakistan two days later at The Oval. England went on to beat India in a nail-biter at Lord’s in the Super 8s, but defeats to West Indies and South Africa saw them fail to qualify for the semi-finals.

England picked a total of five players uncapped for the tournament as they sought to reward some of the more consistent performers on the domestic T20 circuit. A lot of the selections were short-lived however, with only nine of the 15 making it to England’s 2010 World T20 squad the following year, a tournament they ended up winning.
