Chris Tremlett, speaking on The Cricket Podcast, recalled the time David Warner sledged him even though he was only carrying drinks for the England side during the 2013/14 Ashes.

Tremlett was part of the England squad that was whitewashed in the five-match series Down Under. Though he only played one match, picking up four wickets in the process, he couldn’t avoid being sledged by Warner.

The now 38-year-old said that Warner was probably the only player who “wound him up”, and said he was “a bit of a twat” as he recalled the incident when he ran out with drinks and was at the receiving end of the Australia opener’s sledge.

“I’m pretty laidback kind of guy but the only player that wound me up was David Warner,” Tremlett said. “I don’t not like David Warner but I thought he was a bit of a t**t really. Just things like, ‘Why are you doing that? Why would you say that?’ Even when Jonathan Trott got out in Brisbane, he was saying ‘Trott’s scared’ – just stupid, dumb things to say.

“I remember in 2013, I was running on with drinks and he was sledging me, standing at point. I’m like, ‘Mate, I’m carrying the drinks, you don’t have to sledge me.’ He was playing so hard to me. ‘Mate, there is no need for this.’ I really thought he was one guy who was a bit irritating.”

A key part of the England side that won the 2010/11 Ashes, Tremlett’s final Test appearance came in the 2013/14 Ashes and he ultimately retired from the sport in 2015 after representing England in 12 Tests, 15 ODIs and a T20I.
